Police in Liverpool raid a packed gym and beat-up some fleeing visitors for violating lockdown order
Liverpool, UK — Police have defended their decision to use force when officers raided a Liverpool gym where they said lockdown rules were broken.
On Sunday three people were arrested and 50 people were also handed fixed penalty notices after Merseyside Police were called to Prophecy Performance Centre gym, in Gaskill Road, Speke.
In the first clip an officer is seen approaching a young man in the gym car park while others appear to flee.
The officer appears to swing a baton in the direction of the man. It is not clear from the footage if the officer makes contact with the stick.
In a second clip a man in handcuffs is seen surrounded by police. The man falls to the ground after an officer appears to use force against him.
He is then surrounded by more police officers.
The person who posted the footage also shares comments accusing the police of being heavy handed.
Police claimed a number of men became aggressive toward officers when they tried to make off from the scene at around 7pm on Sunday evening. Deputy Chief Constable Serena Kennedy said that officers decided to use force due to the nature of the incident.
