CAPITOL HILL, WASHINGTON D.C. -- A Capitol police officer is dead after a car rammed into two officers at a barricade outside the U.S. Capitol on Friday afternoon. The suspect was shot and killed by authorities. The US National Guard have been deployed to lockdown the Capitol and secure the area.

Yogananda Pittman, acting chief of the U.S. Capitol Police, confirmed the death of the officer following the attack, in a press conference with journalists on Friday afternoon.
“The suspect did start lunging towards U.S. Capitol police officers at which time U.S. Capitol police officers fired upon the suspect. At this time, the suspect has been pronounced deceased,” Pittman said.
She added it is with “a heavy heart” that she confirmed one officer succumbed to injuries from the attack but said no further details are available right now pending notification of next-of-kin.
UPDATE: The man who rammed a car into Capitol Police, killing one, has been identified as Noah Green. Green was armed w/a large blade when he was shot dead. He identified as a follower of the black nationalist Nation of Islam movement. Facebook deleted his profile as soon as the name of the suspect was shared on social media.
